EDUCA 2720 Course Design-Online Education
Course Design for Online Teaching -- Practical experience designing, managing and facilitating a unit of instruction online using a learning management system. Learners will focus on principles of instructional design, assessment methods, and online tools that promote active, collaborative learning. This course is extremely interesting. I'm creating a course in Coursesites, a free LMS by Black Board. The course includes syllabus, course plan, modules, assignments, assessments, discussion board and grading center.

EDUCA 2760 Teaching with Social Media and Collaboration Tools
Below is the GoAnimate that I created about how excited I was about this course. I was very new to social media and did not like collaborating on projects in my college internet courses. Collaborating as an adult learner was very frustrating until we learned about the Web 2.0 tools that make connecting with others fun and easy to do. I also learned that learning to collaborate is not just doing your own section of the project, it is more about questioning, defending and building the project together. I plan to have students participate in collaborative learning in the courses I develop.
I took the section on LinkedIn to a new level by going to the Career Center and getting resume writing tips and gaining advanced knowledge on how to use LinkedIn for professional networking. You don't have to be searching for a job to take advantage of LinkedIn. This network will be a great resource for professional development. Another great resource was the class wiki. I plan on visiting it often to see what other classes add to it. I also plan to use wikis in my courses.
I am quite pleased to have learned how to not only use these tools but how to incorporate them into a course to improve engagement and deepen the learning of the students. I am now very interested in the next and final course in the TOUT program.

EDUCA 2780 Video Applications in Education
This course was very enlightening. I was able to use some of the tools I experienced in the previous course on multimedia. Incorporating Voki, Animoto, and GoAnimate into the videos was fun and educational. I used Camtasia to record those animations for inclusion in my videos. This negated the need to try to embed those videos into a PowerPoint before saving to use in Camtasia. It also allowed a larger view of the video. I also found that Camtasia is easy to use and has lots of bells and whistles to explore. I enjoyed making the tutorial for Kevin. The process of making these tutorials has given me a better understanding of the required skill set needed to create understandable tutorials. I will take the new knowledge gained and use it as I continue to create more educational opportunities for learners. I also have learned that a well choreographed tutorial will not distract the learner. I have to work on this aspect of tutorial creation. Another important take away from this course is to practice, rehearse, practice and rehearse again, but before all of that, I must first understand what the learner wants/needs to learn before creating a lesson.
I am interested in learning more about and practice lesson design. I want to be able to focus on what the learner needs to know and how best to deliver that instruction.
EDUCA 2740 Multimedia in Education
I am in the TOUT certificate program. We are learning many things including: using the different principles in creating an online presentation; keeping students engaged through best practices; helping students create their own content to demonstrate learning; creating rubrics to assess learning; and following the law concerning copyright and fair-use.
As an instructional designer in this program, I’m experiencing so many new ideas to use in creating my courses. With the techniques learned in these courses, I hope to engage my students and keep them keep them coming back for more.
